What are wonderkids?

Wonderkids are classified as players of high potential ability of at least 150 and are no older than 20 at the start of the game. Football Manager has two methods of determining a players quality called current ability (CA) and potential ability (PA). Both numbers have a range between 0 and 200. The CA is the ability of a player when you look at his profile. PA is the potential ability that a player could reach depending on a variety of factors.

So, who could be a wonderkid on FM21? See our list below of who we think could be a wonderkid on FM21. If you think we have missed someone, please contact us on social media, or comment on this article.

Giovanni Reyna - Borussia Dortmund

A supremely gifted sportsman from an early age, Gio joined the NYCFC youth academy and his talent soon shone through. Like former teammate Christian Pulisic, he was able to join the Black-and-Yellows at the age of just 16, having secured a Portuguese passport through Claudio's mother Maria. After playing for the club's U19s team in 2019/20, he was promoted to the senior side during the winter break.

"In training you can see that he has something special. If you can’t see that, you’re blind." - Dortmund coach Lucien Favre

Maarten Vandevoordt - Genk

Finding a good goalkeeper is tough, finding a good young goalkeeper is even harder. Enter Maarten Vandevoordt. Playing for Genk you'll need a pretty big database for him to be available, but he should be a great signing for many teams in FM21. On 10TH December 2019, Vandevoordt, aged 17 years 287 days, became the youngest goalkeeper in UEFA Champions League history, playing 90 minutes in a 4–0 loss to Napoli.

Karim Adeyemi - Red Bull Salzburg

Karim Adeyemi spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Salzburg's feeder club, FC Liefering, where he managed 9 goals and 8 assists in just 14 league appearances. There's just something about Red Bull Salzburg and promising young strikers, but they look set to deliver another fantastic player.

Facundo Pellistri - Penarol

Brazil and Argentina may be the most famous South American countries for developing wonderkids, but let's look further afield. Promising young right-winger Facundo Pellistri, an 18-year-old Uruagyanian currently representing his hometown club, Penarol. Having broken into the first team in 2019, he cemented his place as a regular feature, even making appearances in the Copa Libertadores.

Mykhaylo Mudryk - Shakhtar Donetsk

Victor Tsygankov was the go-to wonderkid Ukrainian winger in FM20, so how about a left-winger to compliment him with some symmetry in FM21? At just 19 years old, Mudryk is a right-footed left-winger - who can also play in any attacking midfield role - has many promising stats that can be developed.

Becir Omeragic - FC Zurich

Young promising centre backs sure seem much harder to come by than their more attacking counterparts, but rest assured, Becir Omeragic is as promising as it gets. The Raiffeisen Super League is a quality place for young players to develop, so it is up to you whether you want to move on him straight away or monitor him for a season. Great tackling ability combined with a great jumping reach and being 6'2" show a centre back that wants for nothing.

Emre Demir – Kayserispor

The youngest player to score in the Turkish Super League in 2019 at just the tender age of 15! Demir boosts great flair, agility and vision which makes him a wonderful watch.

Amourricho van Axel Dongen – AFC Ajax

A wonderkid list would not be complete without mentioning the illustrious academy that Ajax has. One talent coming through that very academy is Amourricho van Axel Dongen. Dongen has been scouted by many top teams. Dongen is a left winger who can also play as a forward and looks set to have a very bright future.
